elevating God, elevating standards...
What is our mission at Elevate Student Ministries?
The future of the world has no expectations placed on it. By "future" we mean students.
Many parents are ok if their students get by merely without making any "big" mistakes. As long as they are safe in whatever it is they are doing, that's ok. If they keep their rooms remotely clean and follow the rules of their parents, teenagers are meeting the expectations placed upon them. But is that enough?
Many students are satisfied as long as they "fit in" - no matter the cost. Alienating peers to be accepted - no problem. Compromising moral standards - what's the big deal? Students are expected by their peers to fit in. As long as they keep the status quo, everything is great. But shake the system, pay the price. So by making exceptions to fit in they meet the expectations of their cohorts. But is even that enough?
We think not! Our desire at Elevate is to provide students with opportunities to "raise the bar" (to borrow an over-used cliché). In 1 Peter 1:16, we see where God demands that we "be holy, for [He is] holy." We want students to be "more than fine, more than bent on getting by" (thanks Switchfoot). We want students to so love God that all they want to do is worship Him and serve Him. We expect them to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ and to make a difference in the lives of their peers. How we do this, we are still not 100 percent sure. But we do know one thing for certain:
As long as we expect nothing, we will get what we expect...
